I have received many phone calls, text messages, and emails regarding our new President-Elect, Mr. Donald J. Trump. It is true, that many statements were made…some invoking fear into the hearts of immigrants and families of immigrants. It is also true that he can initiate some changes that will have a negative impact on many individuals, immigrants and non-immigrants alike.
However, there is only so much that the President of our great nation can do. There are only but so many changes that the President can actually make. This is what our President Obama realized in 2012 and later in 2015. So, let us wait. Let us wait and see what changes Mr. Trump will put forward. Let us wait and see what new policies are initiated.
For now, programs, polices, and laws that are in existence such as DACA, Provisional Waiver, Military Family Members Parole-in-Place, are all still active and will remain that way until a change is made. For now, debemos esperar, we must wait.
Who knows, perhaps President-Elect Mr. Donald J. Trump will be able to do the one thing that President Barack H. Obama was unable to do, pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill allowing millions of immigrants to come out of the shadows, pay a fine, and proceed down a pathway towards lawful status.
This is not farfetched. I can see it. I have hope. But for now…
